AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has arrived in Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts linked to the Gaza conflict.
Trump is scheduled to host Netanyahu on Monday in Washington, where the American president is expected to pursue a ceasefire agreement for Gaza.
According to a report by The Guardian, Netanyahu enters the talks with strong political backing at home, giving him enough leverage to negotiate an end to the Gaza war without sparking rebellion from his right-wing coalition members.
On July 2, President Trump announced that Israel had accepted the terms of a 60-day ceasefire. On July 4, Hamas confirmed it had provided a “positive response” to the proposal through mediators.
Despite this, a Palestinian official familiar with the dialogue stated that the initial round of indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel ended without progress.
In November last year, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
Israel is also currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its conduct in the ongoing war on the besieged Palestinian enclave.
